Telair presents the Clima e-Van as the smallest roof air conditioner on the market, and has designed this campervan roof air conditioner specifically for vehicles where roof space is tight. That's why it fits both the usual 40 x 40 cm rooflight opening and a smaller 36 x 36 cm cut-out, so you don't have to give up your rooflight. Its design also won the German Innovation Award 2022.
The black version answers a trend that Teleco explains like this: more and more vehicles now have coloured bodywork, cabs or trim, and a dark grey unit suits them better than a white one. According to Teleco, the performance is the same as the white model. Prefer the white casing? There's the Telair Clima e-Van 7400H white.
Performance and power draw in your campervan
With 2.1 kW of cooling and an airflow of 300 m³/h, the e-Van 7400H is sized for vehicles from 5 to 7 metres, according to Teleco. In summer it cools the cabin and, in spring and autumn, its heat pump provides 2.0 kW of heating. That said, Teleco notes that the heating output gradually drops once the outside temperature falls below 15°C.
It runs on 230 V and draws an average of 950 W (4.1 A) when cooling and 920 W (4.0 A) when heating, with a peak of 19 A for 150 ms on start-up. In practice:
- At a campsite or aire: the average consumption fits within a 6 A hook-up, but add whatever else is plugged in plus the start-up peak. If your hook-up is tight, switch off other 230 V appliances.
- With a generator: Teleco specifies one of 2200 W.
- On a leisure battery: this is a 230 V unit and doesn't run directly on 12 V. Telair doesn't declare it suitable for use on a battery while driving; the model that is, the Silent 3 5900H, is longer (98 cm).
Ultra-slim diffuser with control from the remote or Wi-Fi
Inside, you'll only see a diffuser measuring 45 x 45 cm and around 4.2 cm thick, with a sloped edge on two sides, a blue multifunction display and LED lights that you switch on and off with the remote. Its front and rear air outlets adjust, and the two dust filters lift out and wash with water.
The remote control includes a timer and LED torch, and lets you choose between cooling, heating and automatic, with 3 fan speeds plus AUTO. If you want to control it from your phone, add the ICW Wi-Fi interface (optional, not included): it works with the app (on the Tuya platform), via Bluetooth when you're near the vehicle, and with Alexa and Google Assistant voice control. Via an optional interface, it also integrates with CI-BUS and the Teleco HUB.
Fitting in Ducato, Jumper, Boxer or Crafter campervans
The unit measures 71 x 61.9 x 23.2 cm and weighs 31 kg, a figure worth checking against a campervan's payload. It fits a 40 x 40 cm or a 36 x 36 cm opening. For corrugated sheet-metal roofs, Telair offers soft polyurethane adapters: the ASD for Fiat Ducato, Citroën Jumper and Peugeot Boxer, and the ASV for Volkswagen Crafter. According to Teleco, these replace the rigid frame and gasket, prevent leaks and isolate the interior from compressor vibration.
Telair doesn't publish a roof thickness range for the e-Van, but it does have 15 mm and 25 mm foam spacers and a campervan kit for roofs over 40 mm thick. It's best fitted by a professional workshop that knows your campervan.
