The Telair Silent 3 8100H black (Total Black) is a roof air conditioner with heat pump for motorhomes, campervans and caravans from 6 to 7.5 metres. On the inside it's the same Silent 3 8100H as always; on the outside it wears the dark grey ABS casing of the Total Black line, designed for vehicles with dark or coloured bodywork. It cools with 2.37 kW (8,100 BTU/h), heats with 2.30 kW (8,000 BTU/h) and draws an average of 4.8 A when cooling.
What's more, Teleco, the manufacturer behind Telair, calls it the most universal model in its Total Black line. You'll also find it under its black version code, 8100HN, or its earlier name: Telair Silent Plus 8100H (Silent+).
Silent 3 8100H black: the Total Black version of the Silent 3
Telair launched the Total Black line in 2023, as more and more motorhomes and campervans now come with grey, black or otherwise coloured bodywork, cabs or trim, and a white unit on the roof looks out of place. That's why the Silent 3 8100H black swaps the white casing for a dark grey ABS one that blends in better on those vehicles.
Nothing else changes. According to Teleco, the black version has the same performance as the white one. The internal diffuser and remote control are the same as the rest of the Silent 3 range. Prefer the white casing? There's the Telair Silent 3 8100H white, with the same features.
Cooling, heating and power draw: what to expect day to day
With 2.37 kW of cooling and an airflow of up to 450 m³/h, the Silent 3 8100H is sized for vehicles from 6 to 7.5 metres, the range Teleco assigns it. In summer it cools and dehumidifies the air inside the cabin. In spring and autumn, its heat pump gives 2.30 kW of heating and, according to Teleco, heats effectively down to around 4°C outside. Below 15°C outside, the heating output gradually starts to drop.
It runs on 230 V and draws an average of 1100 W (4.8 A) when cooling and 1000 W (4.3 A) when heating. On start-up it pulls 18 A for 0.15 seconds. In practice:
- On a campsite hook-up: the average consumption stays under a 6 A hook-up, but add whatever else is plugged in at the same time plus the start-up peak. If your hook-up is tight, switch off other 230 V appliances while it's running.
- With a generator: Teleco specifies a 2200 W generator.
- On a leisure battery: this is a 230 V unit and doesn't run directly on 12 V. If you want air conditioning powered by battery and inverter while driving, the model Telair declares suitable for that is the Telair Silent 3 5900H.
Ultra-slim diffuser with control from the remote or your phone
Inside the vehicle you'll only see a diffuser measuring 45 x 45 cm and 4.2 cm thick, with a graduated edge, a multifunction display and LED lights. According to Teleco, it's compact enough to fit in the hallway without getting in the way of your cupboard doors. What's more, the front and rear air outlets adjust to spread the air both ways or concentrate it in one direction, and the two dust filters lift out easily and wash with water.
You control it with an infrared remote with a timer, quick keys for cooling and heating and an LED torch. It has four modes (cooling, heating, fan and automatic) and 3 fan speeds plus AUTO. If you want to control it from your phone, add the ICW Wi-Fi interface (optional, not included): the module fits into the filter compartment and lets you use the app (on the Tuya platform), Bluetooth when you're near the vehicle, or voice control with Alexa and Google Assistant. It's also compatible with CI-BUS and the Teleco HUB via an optional interface.
Fitting into a 40 x 40 cm rooflight opening
The roof unit measures 98 x 65 cm, is 23.9 cm high and weighs 36 kg. It fits over the standard 40 x 40 cm rooflight opening. Before you buy, check that those 36 kg fit within your vehicle's payload.
Telair doesn't publish a roof thickness range for the Silent 3 range. To help with fitting, it offers a 20 mm foam spacer, a thick frame for vehicles with a thin roof and adapters for the corrugated roofs of panel vans. Only the colour of the roof unit's casing, which in the black version is dark grey ABS. According to Teleco, the power output, power draw, dimensions and weight are the same. If you'd rather have white, it's available as the Telair Silent 3 8100H white.
Are Silent 3, Silent Plus and 8100HN the same unit?
Yes. Teleco launched this unit in 2021 as the Silent Plus 8100H (also written Silent+), replacing the older Silent 8400H and Silent 7400H. Its catalogue now calls it the Silent 3 8100H, and 8100HN is the code for the black version.
Can I use it on a 6 A campsite hook-up?
