The Telair Silent 3 5900H is a roof air conditioner with heat pump for caravans, campervans and motorhomes from 5 to 6.5 metres, designed for low power consumption. It cools with 1.73 kW (5,900 BTU/h), heats with 1.64 kW (5,600 BTU/h) and draws just 680 W (2.9 A) on average when cooling. It's also the only model in the Silent 3 range that Telair declares suitable for running from a leisure battery via an inverter, even while the vehicle is being driven.
Teleco, the manufacturer behind Telair, launched it in 2021 as the Telair Silent Plus 5900H to replace the older Silent 5400H. It's now called the Silent 3 5900H and is the smaller sibling of the Telair Silent 3 8100H, with the same casing and the same diffuser.
Telair Silent 3 5900H: low power draw and battery use
Drawing 680 W when cooling and 640 W when heating, the Silent 3 5900H can be connected to the leisure battery through a pure sine wave inverter of at least 1500 W (with the unit running at full power) so you can use it with the vehicle in motion. For this, Teleco recommends its TI 1500 SI ACT inverter. That way, you can keep the cabin cool during the journey, not just when you're plugged in.
That said, it doesn't run directly on 12 V, and how long it lasts on the battery depends on your battery bank's capacity and your electrical set-up. We recommend working this out with your workshop before you have it fitted.
Cooling, heating and power draw at the campsite
With 1.73 kW of cooling and an airflow of up to 400 m³/h, it's sized for caravans, campervans and motorhomes from 5 to 6.5 metres, according to Teleco. In spring and autumn, its heat pump provides 1.64 kW of heating. According to Teleco, the Silent range's heat pump works properly down to around 4°C outside, and below 15°C the heating output gradually starts to drop.
- On a campsite hook-up: with an average draw of 2.9 A when cooling and 2.8 A when heating, it leaves plenty of headroom on a 6 A hook-up. On start-up it pulls 15 A for 0.15 s; if your hook-up is tight, add whatever else is plugged in at the same time.
- With a generator: Teleco specifies one of 2200 W.
- On a leisure battery: via a pure sine wave inverter of at least 1500 W, including while driving.
4.2 cm diffuser, remote with timer and optional Wi-Fi
The internal diffuser measures 45 x 45 cm and just 4.2 cm thick, so it barely stands out on the roof. It has a graduated edge, LED side lights that you switch on with the remote, and a display showing both the set temperature and the cabin temperature. Its front and rear air outlets adjust to your liking, and the two dust filters lift out and wash under the tap.
With the infrared remote you choose between cooling, heating, fan and automatic, with 3 fan speeds plus AUTO and a timer; it also has quick keys for cooling and heating and an LED torch. If you add the ICW Wi-Fi interface (optional, not included), you can control it from the phone app, via Bluetooth near the vehicle, or with Alexa and Google Assistant. With an optional interface, it also integrates with CI-BUS and the Teleco HUB.
Fitting into the 40 x 40 cm rooflight opening
The roof unit measures 98 x 65 x 23.9 cm and weighs 34 kg, 2 kg less than the Silent 3 8100H. It fits the standard 40 x 40 cm rooflight opening, the usual one on caravans and motorhomes. Before you buy, check that the weight fits within your vehicle's payload.
Telair doesn't publish a roof thickness range for the Silent 3 range; as accessories, it offers a 20 mm foam spacer and a thick frame for thin roofs. We recommend having it fitted by a professional workshop and asking them about anything specific to your vehicle.

What's the difference from the Silent 3 8100H?
They share the same casing, diffuser and 40 x 40 cm opening. The 5900H has less power (1.73 kW versus 2.37 kW cooling), draws considerably less (680 W and 2.9 A versus 1100 W and 4.8 A), weighs 2 kg less and is the only one of the two that Telair declares suitable for battery and inverter use while driving. The 8100H covers longer vehicles and is also available in black.
Does it fit a 40 x 40 cm rooflight opening? What roof thickness does it need?
Yes: it fits the standard 40 x 40 cm rooflight opening. For roof thickness, Telair doesn't give a range for the Silent 3 range; what it does offer are fitting accessories, such as a 20 mm foam spacer and a thick frame for thin roofs. Ask your workshop which one you need.
Does it heat in winter?
Its heat pump gives 1.64 kW. According to Teleco, the Silent range's heat pump works well down to around 4°C outside and performs less well below 15°C, so it's ideal for spring and autumn. For frosty nights you'll need the vehicle's fixed heating.
How much noise does it make?
There's no official decibel figure for the Silent 3 5900H, and we'd rather not make one up. Teleco does say that the range's new diffuser improves airflow without increasing operating noise. At night, the quietest option is the lowest speed.
Is the Silent 3 5900H available in black?
No. Teleco only makes it in white; the black Total Black version exists for the Silent 3 8100H. If your vehicle is 6 metres or more and you want black, take a look at the Telair Silent 3 8100H black.
