Truma Combi 6E heater, gas and electric, for your large motorhome, caravan or campervan: up to 6900 W combined
The Truma Combi 6E heater is the Combi with electric rods for large vehicles: a single appliance that heats the living space and the 10 litres of water in its tank, and that reaches 6900 W in combined mode, the highest combined output among the gas Combis. It runs on gas, on the 230 V campsite hook-up or on both sources at once.
Truma also states that interior heating is up to 25% faster during the boost phase and with a difference of at least 10 °C between the desired and the actual temperature. That is a manufacturer's figure under those conditions, so it is not a promise for every situation.
It comes with the iNet X Panel 2 control panel. Note, though, that the box does not include the exhaust or the water connection set, and both the fitting and the electrical part are a job for technicians.
Benefits of the Truma Combi 6E heater
- Up to 6900 W in combined mode, the highest combined output among the gas Combis.
- On gas it reaches 6000 W in three stages (2000 W, 4000 W and 6000 W) and, on electricity, 900 W or 1800 W.
- According to Truma, interior heating is up to 25% faster in the boost phase, with a temperature difference of at least 10 °C.
- Fast, even water heating in a short time, according to Truma, and extremely low energy consumption.
- Three modes to choose from: gas, campsite 230 V or combined.
- In combined mode, electricity takes the lead, and the burner only comes on when the power demand rises.
- In combined mode, if the 230 V supply fails, it switches to gas by itself.
- When you use the campsite hook-up you save gas, and Truma highlights that electric mode is silent and emission-free.
- iNet X Panel 2 control panel, with a capacitive touchscreen, Bluetooth app and up to 6 timers.
- Weighs 15.5 kg without water, with the electric rods built in.
Is it compatible with your motorhome, campervan or caravan?
Truma states that the Truma Combi 6E heater can only be fitted in motorhomes of vehicle class M1 and in caravans of class O, as long as the gas installation follows standard EN 1949. So your campervan needs to be registered as a motorhome, and Truma does not permit commercial vehicles (class N).
By size, the Combi 6E is the range's option for large vehicles, while the Combi 4E is the one for small and medium-sized ones. Because it also uses the campsite hook-up, make sure the supply can handle the electric power you want to set.
Vehicle, space and mains hook-up for the Truma Combi 6E heater
To start, measure the space, because Truma requires extra space for the connections. There is also a specific list of vehicles in which you must not fit it.
| Requirement | What Truma says |
| Permitted vehicles | Motorhomes of vehicle class M1 and caravans of class O, with the gas installation carried out to standard EN 1949. |
| Vehicles not permitted | Coaches and buses (M2 and M3), commercial vehicles (class N), boats and other watercraft, hunting or forestry huts, weekend homes and canopies; nor is it allowed in trailers or vehicles that carry dangerous goods. |
| Vehicle size | Large (according to Truma's website, “with integrated heating rods for large vehicles”). |
| Unit dimensions (L x W x H) | 510 x 450 x 300 mm |
| Minimum installation dimensions | 540 x 500 x 350 mm, with additional space for the gas connection, the water connections and the drain valve depending on the installation situation. |
| 12 V supply | The unit runs on 12 V; you will find the consumption in the technical specifications. |
| 230 V mains supply | For electric operation, check that the fuse protection of the campsite supply can handle the power you set: 900 W (3.9 A) or 1800 W (7.8 A). The cable reel must be fully unwound so that the cable does not overheat. |
| Controls and accessories | Only with the matching Truma control panels and accessories. The vehicle manufacturer decides where the room temperature sensor goes. |
In short, the vehicle, the space and the hook-up must all be suitable before you order the material. If anything does not match, discuss it with your installer.
Gas, regulator and driving
Gas has its own rules, even if you use electricity on the campsite. To heat while you drive, Truma requires a safety shut-off device, for example the MonoControl CS regulator, and for two cylinders it recommends the DuoControl CS vertical or the DuoControl CS horizontal.
| Topic | What Truma says |
| Gas and pressure | LPG (propane / butane) at 30 mbar. The service pressure of the supply and that of the unit (rating plate) must match. |
| Regulator | Regulating devices to DIN EN 16129 (in vehicles), with a fixed outlet pressure of 30 mbar and a flow rate that covers at least the maximum consumption of all appliances. Truma recommends the MonoControl CS and, with two cylinders, the DuoControl CS. |
| Cylinders | Upright, drawing gas in the vapour phase; you must not draw it in the liquid phase. |
| Cold | At temperatures around 0 °C or below, the regulator or the changeover valve must work with the EisEx regulator heater. |
| While driving | Safety shut-off device in accordance with UNECE Regulation 122, e.g. the MonoControl CS. Without it, you keep the cylinder closed and put up warning signs in the gas locker and near the control panel. |
| When not to use it | Never during refuelling, in car parks, garages or on ferries: switch it off at the control panel, and it must not be possible to switch it on remotely. |
Electric mode is for stationary use on the campsite; while you drive, the heater runs on gas. Also, the installation section sums up the cowl, the water and the warm-air ducts.

How the Truma Combi 6E heater works
It is a blown air heater with a built-in water heater and 230 V rods. The Truma Combi 6E heater therefore offers three energy options, which Truma sums up as follows:
| Mode | When to use it | How it works |
| Gas only | Stand-alone use, for example on the road | Propane or butane. The unit chooses the output stage by itself (2000 W, 4000 W or 6000 W) according to the difference between the set temperature and the ambient temperature. |
| Electric only (230 V) | Stationary use on the campsite | You preselect 900 W (3.9 A) or 1800 W (7.8 A) by hand, according to the fuse protection at the campsite. |
| Combined (gas and electric) | High power demand or low outside temperatures | With low demand, 230 V electricity takes the lead; the burner only comes on when demand rises. Up to 6900 W, in heating mode only. |
Truma advises choosing gas or combined mode when demand is high, so that there is always enough power. For hot water the unit uses either gas or electricity, not both: if you have selected combined mode, it uses electricity for the water. If the 230 V supply is disconnected or fails, it switches to gas automatically.
Water, sensors and heating without water
When the tank is full, the water heats automatically, and its temperature depends on the mode and the output. While the unit runs on gas, the water heating uses the lowest burner stage. A room temperature sensor measures the air in the vehicle, and the unit reduces its output before it reaches the set temperature.
You can also heat the living space alone with the tank empty, on gas, on electricity or in combined mode. While you drive, the fan-assisted burner runs on gas and requires the safety shut-off; electric mode is for the campsite.
iNet X Panel 2 control panel for the Truma Combi 6E heater
With this version, the control panel you receive is the iNet X Panel 2. From it you control the heating, the air-conditioning system and the Truma LevelControl, with a 4.3-inch capacitive touchscreen or with the free iNet X App.

| Manufacturer's warranty | 24 months |
Among its functions, Truma highlights the automatic climate control, which adjusts the heating and air conditioning to maintain a pleasant temperature, and system updates via the app.
Everyday use of the panel and the app
It also supports up to 3 phones at once and up to 6 timers, and it shows the indoor climate, the outdoor and indoor temperatures and error messages with suggested solutions. The app warns you when the battery, which lasts approximately 8 years, needs changing.
To update, use internet and Bluetooth: it takes up to 15 minutes and, if it fails, the unit keeps the last software. If 60 seconds pass without use, the screen goes into the lock menu and, after another 60, into standby mode. To clean it, a non-abrasive cloth with water or mild soap is enough. Finally, remote control requires the optional iNet X Connect module.
Installation and fitting of the Truma Combi 6E heater
Only qualified and authorised personnel (technicians), who follow the installation and operating instructions and the current technical standards, may fit, repair and inspect the Truma Combi 6E heater. With the 230 V supply, Truma warns of danger to life from electric shock when changing the fuse or the connection cables.
| Item | What the installer must allow for |
| Cowl | Do not block it, and Truma prohibits fitting covers over the cowl. When cleaning the vehicle, do not spray water directly at it. The unit needs an exhaust system, which is not in the box. |
| Opening window | If the cowl is near or below a window that opens, you need an automatic cut-off device; under EN 1949, a window switch if it is less than 30 cm away. |
| Warm-air ducts | Truma does not allow the unit to run without them. |
| Mains water | If you connect the vehicle to a mains water supply (external pressure), a pressure-reducing valve so that the water heater does not have to withstand more than 2.8 bar. |
| Solar installation | Under EN 1648, always a battery with a charge controller or a voltage regulator (11 V – 15 V; AC voltage ripple < 1.2 Vpp) between the panels and the heater. |
| Yellow label | The installer or the owner must stick the enclosed warning label in a place clearly visible to all users, e.g. the wardrobe door. |
| Mains cable | If the mains connection cable is damaged, the manufacturer, its customer service or a similarly qualified person must replace it, to avoid hazards. |
In other words, the installer must finalise the exhaust, water, window, electrics and label before handing the vehicle over.
Frost and FrostControl
Because the Combi has no built-in frost protection, freezing water can seriously damage the unit. The FrostControl valve, which comes inside the FC TB (36100-01) or FC JG (36100-02) water connection set and is not in the box, drains the water heater when there is a risk of frost.
It opens by itself at approx. 3 °C, and you can only close it by hand from approx. 7 °C. If you are not going to use the vehicle in frosty weather, always drain the water heater, because Truma excludes frost damage from the warranty. Also, keep the drain pipe free of snow, ice and leaf litter.
230 V fuse and overheating
The 230 V fuse is in the power electronics, under its cover, and must be 10 A, fast-acting with tripping delay “H”. Before you open the cover, you must disconnect the power supply at all poles.
230 V operation includes a mechanical overheating switch, which can trip if the 12 V supply is interrupted during operation or run-on. To reset it, first let the unit cool down, then remove the connection cover, press the reset button and put the cover back.
What the box contains and the accessories you need
The version with the iNet X Panel 2 (Truma 33815-20) includes:
- Combi 6E heater with water heater.
- iNet X Panel 2 control panel.
- 6 m control panel cable.
By contrast, the items in the following list are not in the box. The warm-air ducts do not appear in the contents, but the unit cannot run without them.
- Exhaust system: ZR 80 wall cowl or roof cowl, with exhaust pipe and combustion air pipe.
- FC TB (36100-01) or FC JG (36100-02) water connection set, with the FrostControl valve and the elbows.

Who is the Truma Combi 6E heater for?
The Truma Combi 6E heater is for anyone who needs a lot of power and energy flexibility in a large vehicle. For example, if any of these situations sounds familiar:
- Your caravan or motorhome is large and you want up to 6900 W when it is very cold.
- You spend weeks on campsites with mains power and prefer to use less gas.
- You want the interior to heat up quickly: according to Truma, up to 25% faster in the boost phase, with a temperature difference of at least 10 °C.
- You value a panel with a capacitive screen and app control.
- You need hot water and heating from a single appliance, without choosing between them.
- Your campervan is approved as a motorhome (class M1); you cannot fit this unit in a commercial vehicle (class N).
Maintenance, cleaning and warranty for the Truma Combi 6E heater
- Have specialist technicians check the cleanliness of the unit and clean the installation space at least once a year.
- Use the safety and drain valve regularly (at least twice a year) to remove limescale and check that it has not seized up.
- Sterilise and descale the water tank: products sold in camping shops, commercial descalers, vinegar essence and citric acid are suitable; pour them in through the water inlet in the recommended proportion and then rinse thoroughly.
- To reinforce disinfection, you can heat the water to 70 °C in gas operation: when it reaches 60 °C the burner switches off, you keep the unit switched on for at least another 30 minutes and you do not draw hot water.
- With solar panels, disconnect the charge controller first when disconnecting the battery and connect it last.
- Children must not carry out maintenance, repair or cleaning.
Smell of gas and warranty
If you smell gas, avoid any source of ignition, open windows and doors, evacuate the vehicle, close the cylinders and have technicians check the installation before you use it again.
Truma offers a voluntary 24-month warranty against material or manufacturing defects, valid in the European Union, Iceland, Norway, Switzerland and Turkey. It does not replace the statutory warranty or cover frost damage.
Frequently asked questions
When is combined mode worthwhile on the Truma Combi 6E heater?
When the power demand is high, for example when heating the vehicle from cold or in low outside temperatures. Combined mode then adds gas and 230 V electricity up to 6900 W and gives priority to electricity. It only works in heating mode, and the burner comes on when more power is needed.
Is it true that the Truma Combi 6E heater heats up to 25% faster?
It is a Truma figure with conditions: interior heating is up to 25% faster during the boost phase and with a difference of at least 10 °C between the desired and the actual temperature. So read it as a manufacturer's figure, not a general promise.
Is the Truma Combi 6E heater suitable for my campervan?
Yes, as long as the van is approved as a motorhome (vehicle class M1) and the gas installation complies with EN 1949. That is why it is not permitted in commercial vehicles (class N). Truma also offers it for large vehicles; for small and medium-sized ones, the range offers the Combi 4E.
Combi 6 or Combi 6E: which one do I need?
Both are for large vehicles and reach 6000 W on gas. The Combi 6E adds the 230 V rods (900 W or 1800 W) and the 6900 W combined mode, and is only sold with the iNet X Panel 2 (the Combi 6 is also sold with the iNet X Panel); it weighs 15.5 kg without water, compared with the 14.4 kg of the Combi 6.
What happens if it freezes?
The Combi has no built-in frost protection. With the FrostControl valve, which comes in the water connection set and is not in the box, the water heater drains by itself when there is a risk of frost, and Truma asks you to always drain it if the vehicle is not used in frosty weather, because frost damage is not covered.
