Grey water pump Sanimarin Pump Up for your boat: collects and lifts water from the shower, washbasin and sink

The grey water pump Sanimarin Pump Up from SFA collects and pumps a boat's grey water. It is a lifting pump with automatic start, designed for the on-board shower, washbasin or sink. SFA also manufactures it in France.

Within the Sanimarin range, the Pump Up is the grey water pump: it collects water from the shower, washbasin or sink and lifts it up to 4 m. To this end, it has 2 low side inlets, automatic start with an activation level of 65 mm and an integrated activated carbon filter, which is why SFA presents it as an odour-free pump.

This pump is for grey water only, that is, the shower, washbasin and sink, and not for the toilet. If you are looking for a toilet for your boat, see SFA's electric marine toilet Sanimarin 31. If you want to see more water equipment, visit the water pumps collection.

Benefits of the grey water pump Sanimarin

  • Collects and pumps the grey water from the boat's shower, washbasin or sink.
  • Lifts water to a vertical discharge height of up to 4 m, with the maximum horizontal distance that SFA gives for each height.
  • Starts automatically, with an activation level of 65 mm.
  • Takes up little room: SFA presents it as a small pump.
  • Has 2 low 40 mm side inlets, for left or right mounting.
  • Has an integrated activated carbon filter, which is why SFA describes it as an odour-free pump.
  • The elbow and the non-return valve, which is external and removable, are included.
  • Available in a 12 V and a 24 V version, to suit the boat's electrical system.
  • Runs at a noise level of 46 dB(A), according to SFA.

Is it compatible with your boat?

Before buying the grey water pump Sanimarin, check that your boat meets the installation requirements that SFA publishes. Because the Pump Up only works with grey water, it is not suitable for toilets.

RequirementSFA data
UseGrey water from a boat's shower, washbasin or sink; not suitable for toilets.
OrientationMust be installed in the direction of travel of the boat: according to SFA's drawing, the pump's long axis lines up with the boat's length.
Electricity12 V or 24 V direct current. The battery must be able to supply 28 A (12 V) or 15 A (24 V), and the circuit needs a 30 A circuit breaker at 12 V or a 20 A one at 24 V.
ShowerWith the shower tray beside it, the tray outlet must be at least 120 mm above the floor. If the pump goes under the tray, raise the tray at least 150 mm and leave a 400 × 150 mm access hatch that can only be opened with a tool.
DischargeUp to 4 m high, with a 22 to 32 mm outlet. The elbow and the non-return valve are included; if the valve goes horizontally, connect it with 22 mm rigid pipe.
TemperatureGrey water at 35 °C at most.

As SFA does not publish a list of compatible boats, check these requirements and the pump's dimensions before installing it. Also, if you want to complete your boat's water equipment, there are more products in the water and sanitation collection.

How the grey water pump Sanimarin works: lift and distance

The grey water pump Sanimarin collects water through its side inlets, starts automatically (activation level of 65 mm) and lifts it up to 4 m. In general, the higher the lift, the less horizontal distance it allows, as SFA's table shows.

Lift heightMaximum horizontal distance
1 m40 m
2 m30 m
3 m20 m
4 m10 m

Besides this table, SFA's manual gives a 1% slope for the discharge pipe and 3% for the inlets. So keep to those slopes when you install it.

Installation and fitting on the boat

First, place the grey water pump Sanimarin in the direction of travel of the boat, as SFA says. Then choose the inlet side: the mounting allows left or right, and the plug supplied closes the inlet you do not use.

In addition, the non-return valve is external and removable, and the elbow is supplied. If you fit the valve horizontally, join the parts with 22 mm rigid pipe. Finally, for the shower, follow the heights and the hatch given in the compatibility table.

What is in the box with the pump

According to the parts drawing in SFA's manual, the grey water pump Sanimarin comes with the items in the list below.

  • 1 elbow
  • 1 non-return valve
  • 3 clamps 25x40
  • 2 sleeves 20x32
  • 1 plug for the inlet you do not use
  • 4 clamps 32x55
  • 2 fixing plates
  • 2 screws

However, the circuit breaker and the discharge pipe do not appear in that SFA parts list. So before installing it, check that you have both, according to the requirements in the compatibility table.

Who is it for?

The grey water pump Sanimarin is meant for anyone who needs to pump a boat's grey water, that is, from the shower, washbasin or sink. These are the profiles it may suit, as long as the installation meets SFA's requirements.

  • Sailors with an on-board shower, on a sailing boat or a motor boat, who want to collect the water from the tray.
  • Anyone with a washbasin in the boat's bathroom who needs to pump its grey water.
  • Anyone who wants to pump the water from the galley sink on board.
  • Anyone with little free room who wants a small pump.
  • Anyone installing the pump under the shower tray who can leave a 400 × 150 mm access hatch.
  • Anyone fitting out the bathroom with the electric marine toilet Sanimarin 31 who wants to add a pump for the grey water from the shower or washbasin.

Maintenance, warranty and safety

SFA specifies its own descaler for maintaining the grey water pump Sanimarin. It also says to turn off the water during long absences.

As for the warranty, SFA's 2017 manual sets it at 2 years. According to that same manual, however, after 6 months the customer pays for the technician's call-out.

In addition, among the installation requirements, SFA asks that, if the pump goes under the shower tray, the access hatch can only be opened with a tool, and that grey water does not exceed 35 °C.

Frequently asked questions

What can I connect to the grey water pump Sanimarin Pump Up?

You can connect the boat's shower, washbasin or sink, that is, the connections SFA gives for this grey water pump. So it is not suitable for the toilet.

Where do I install the grey water pump on the boat?

As SFA says, it must be installed in the direction of travel of the boat. If it goes under the shower tray, raise the tray at least 150 mm and leave a 400 × 150 mm hatch that can only be opened with a tool. As a result, the grey water pump Sanimarin stays accessible.

Does the pump stop smells?

How high and how far does it send the water?

The grey water pump Sanimarin lifts water to a vertical discharge height of up to 4 m, although the horizontal distance depends on that height. For example, with a 1 m lift, the maximum horizontal distance is 40 m, and at 4 m it falls to 10 m. SFA's manual also gives a 1% slope for the discharge pipe.

Should I choose the 12 V or the 24 V pump?

First, choose the version that matches your boat's voltage. The 12 V version delivers 70 L/min at 28 A and 340 W, while the 24 V version delivers 80 L/min at 15 A and 360 W. Also, in both cases the grey water pump Sanimarin needs a 30 A circuit breaker at 12 V or a 20 A one at 24 V.
