TIPS FOR TERRACE INSTALLATION AND MODEL SELECTION

Let us give you a few tips before you choose the deck you want to install for your mobile home. Some refer to its placement and others to the choice of models.

Placement

It is advised that the height at which a mobile home should be installed ranges from 59 to 70 cm from the ground. For the deck, the height should be between 56 to 62 cm from the ground.

It is highly recommended that the deck has adjustable pivots, as the heights at different points where the deck's pillars rest can vary greatly. This way, we can ensure it is completely level, which is essential for its greater durability. The deck should be placed approximately 20 mm away from the mobile home wall.

This will leave enough margin to avoid pressure due to partial ground settlement. Also, it is advisable to leave a distance of at least 3 cm between the opening of the mobile home door and the deck floor, preventing the door from getting stuck due to possible ground settlement.

Model Selection

It is advisable to maximize the plot's footage, preferably the larger the better, since having a railing will help us better reserve our space from other plots. We should ask ourselves what we expect from the deck: to have sun, avoid it, or have both options. Thus, we will ask ourselves if we need a fully covered, semi-covered, or fully uncovered deck.

Evidently, this will be determined by the local climate. Where weather conditions are more adverse, decks are mostly covered. Even materials other than wood are used, employing metal and aluminum structures, glass windows, and even doors.

In average climatic conditions, wood is usually combined in the structure and tile-type sandwich panels for the roofs. In areas with rain, water channeling with gutters and downspouts is recommended. It is advised not to use gutters of 80 mm diameter (more typical for houses) and to use 50 mm diameter. This way, we achieve an aesthetic that matches the mobile home and its surroundings. In areas with a mild climate, the covered area (porch) is usually made of canvas.

Once we are clear about the type of deck and materials that suit us best, given the local climate, we should consider what type of stairs are most suitable. From our experience, whenever possible, we recommend making a staircase wide enough or even planning two possible staircases: a main one and a second side one, provided our budget allows it. A wide staircase can also be used to sit and watch our children play on the plot.

It is also important to anticipate a handrail, especially for staircases with three steps, as being made of wood, they have a somewhat oscillating floor.

The choice of railing model will configure the personality of our deck. We can add a planter to our deck to integrate it more into its surroundings and especially to line the lower part of the deck and even the mobile home with wooden skirts for a great aesthetic improvement.
