Let us give you a few tips before you choose the terrace you want to install for your mobile home. Some relate to its placement and others to the choice of model.
Placement
It is recommended that a mobile home be installed at a height of between 59 and 70 cm from the ground. For the terrace, the height should be between 56 and 62 cm from the ground.
It is highly recommended that the terrace have adjustable pivots, as the heights at different points where the terrace pillars rest can vary considerably. This will ensure that it is perfectly level, which is essential for its durability. The terrace should be positioned approximately 20 mm away from the wall of the mobile home.
This will allow sufficient clearance to avoid pressure from partial ground settling. It is also advisable to leave a distance of at least 3 cm between the opening of the mobile home door and the terrace floor, preventing the door from becoming stuck due to potential ground settling.
Model selection
It's advisable to maximize the plot's square footage; the larger the better, since having a railing will help to better protect our space from other plots. We should ask ourselves what we want from the terrace: sun, shade, or both. Therefore, we'll consider whether we need a fully covered, partially covered, or completely open terrace.
Obviously, this will depend on the local climate. Where weather conditions are harsher, terraces are usually covered. Materials other than wood are often used, including metal and aluminum structures, glass windows, and even doors.
In moderate climates, the structure typically combines wood with tile-effect sandwich panels for the roofs. In rainy areas, gutters and downspouts are recommended for water runoff. It is advisable to use 50 mm diameter gutters instead of 80 mm (more common on houses). This helps maintain a consistent aesthetic with the mobile home and its surroundings. In mild climates, the covered area (porch) is usually made of canvas.
Once we've determined the type of terrace and materials best suited to our needs, taking into account the local climate, we should consider the most appropriate type of staircase. In our experience, we recommend, whenever possible, a sufficiently wide staircase or even two possible staircases: a main one and a secondary side staircase, provided our budget allows. A wide staircase can also be used as a place to sit and watch our children play in the yard.
It is also important to provide a handrail, especially for stairs with three steps, since being made of wood, they have a somewhat unstable floor.
The choice of railing style will define the personality of our terrace. We can add a planter to our terrace to better integrate it with its surroundings, and above all, clad the lower part of the terrace and even the mobile home with wooden skirting boards for a significant aesthetic improvement.
